university of ibadan NASU Embarked on indefinite strike

1>>Academic and administrative activities at the University of Ibadan came to a halt on Monday as a result of a strike embarked upon by the Non - Academic Staff Union of the institution .
The entrance gates and administrative offices at the school were locked by the workers , thereby blocking other people from gaining access into the school .
Non - academic staff of the university commenced the strike last week because of what they described as illegal deductions of pension money from their salaries . However , academic and administrative works were allowed to take place after persuasion from the school authority . Aside the pension deduction issue, the workers are also asking for unpaid promotion arrears , shortfall in salary payment , and welfare of staff school workers , among other sundry issues.
In some lecture halls where teaching was going on , students and their lecturers were forced to vacate the halls .
Chairman of Governing Council , UI , Dr . Umar Mustapha , earlier met with stakeholders in the school and set up a staff audit committee to look into the matter .
Mustapha was reported to have appealed to the union leaders to suspend the strike but the workers insisted that the school bursar, Michael Alatise , should refund all money allegedly illegally deducted from their salaries before they would suspend the strike .
