JAMB Mock Exam Holds Next Week, Are You Taking The Exam?

Going by the information earlier provided by JAMB, the proposed Mock examination for 2017 prospective UTME candidates will hold Saturday April 8th, 2017. That's a week from now.

According to a recent information released by JAMB, over 300,000 candidates have already indicated interest to sit for the Mock examination.

The purpose of the Mock examination is to give candidates an idea of what the actual UTME will look like considering the new technology JAMB has put in place.

I think it is advisable for candidates to take the Mock examination as it will serve as a confidence booster during the actual examination.

We would like to know how many Myschoolnewz members are taking the Mock examination. Do you think it is necessary? For those that won't be taking the examination, what are your reasons? Please share with us.

Jamb Cancel CBT, introduce ‘eight-key Device’  for 2017 Examination

THE Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced its resolve to abolish Computer Based Test (CBT) method for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) due to low computer literacy level of candidates.
It has also, in collaboration with a private institute, resolved to set up dedicated UTME centres for visually impaired candidates in Abuja, Lagos and Kano in 2018.
Registrar of the board, Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, who said this in Kaduna yesterday, however, said the board would not revert to the old paper and pencil mode, but an “eight-key device”.
He spoke at the opening of Strategic Planning Retreat on Monitoring and Supervision of 2017 UTME at Arewa House in Kaduna.
Oloyede said the device would eradicate the challenge of low computer literacy and phobia for mouse by some candidates.
He said: “From the general feedback on the adoption of the Computer-Based Test mode, we have noted the challenge of computer low level literacy of some candidates, especially with the phobia for the mouse. This has been responsible partly for the call by some people for reversal to the Paper and Pencil Test mode.
“To ensure equity and level playground for all candidates taking Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, the board has designed a system that will allow candidates use only eight keys without the use of mouse. All the candidates need to do is to press the letters A, B, C, D for responses to questions and keys: P, N, S and R representing; previous question, next question, submit and reverse, respectively.”
On the new arrangements for the visually impaired candidates, the JAMB Registrar said Digital Bridge Institute in partnership with the board has agreed to set up three dedicated centres in Abuja, Lagos and Kano in 2018.
He added that the board would support the centres with necessary inputs.
Ahead of 2018, when the project of dedicated centres will come to fruition, the board has reached an understanding with the association for the blind persons in Nigeria and blind students in Lagos that an abridged approach would be used for the 2017 UTME, whereby all prospective blind candidates would be invited to three centres in the country for special assessment in their subjects of choice and relevance to their desired courses and programmes.
Oloyede while addressing the participants, most of whom are external supervisors and other stakeholders drawn from various tertiary institutions and education sector, said concerned stakeholders must take UTME as their own and make it a project.
He noted that the conduct of the board’s examination, which is a selection examination, is the foundation of quality education.
Oloyede, therefore, advised stakeholders to see their involvement in UTME as a call to national duty and personal sacrifice.
The registrar said the agency may reduce the timeline for the UTME from three hours to two hours.
He added that the question papers will be uploaded five minutes to the examinations to check malpractice.
He said: “As for the 2017 UTME, it is likely we reduce the duration of the examinations. We are looking at two hours for the examinations instead of the present three-hour timeline. This is in line with international best practices.
“As for the candidates, for their age, the maximum time they can sit for examinations is two hours. Even in terms of international standard, for primary school pupils, the maximum time for examinations is between 45minutes and one hour.”
He confirmed that about 300,000 candidates might sit for the mock UTME examinations on April 8, which will be used to test-run its new technology to make its examinations easier for students

Full Transcript Of The Speech Delivered By JAMB Boss Concerning 2017 UTME In Kaduna

JAMB Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede, during the strategic planning retreat on monitoring and supervision of 2017 UTME held at Arewa House, Kaduna delivered a speech concerning the 2017 JAMB UTME.
We have brought you to full transcript of the speech;
INTRODUCTION

On behalf of the Management and staff of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, I happily welcome participants to this Strategic Planning Retreat on the Structure of Supervision and Evaluation of the Conduct of the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
When we sent out invitation to you and gave you a very short notice, we were skeptical on your finding time out of your tight schedules to honour our invitation.
However, this large turnout has further confirmed our identification and choice of you as critical stakeholders with genuine and undiluted interest in this Nation’s education sector in general and in its assessment and evaluation sub-sector in particular where the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board plays a major role. I therefore thank you and appreciate your presence here today.
Before I go further, please permit me to pay tributes to my illustrious predecessors in office. We pray that the soul of Mr. Michael S. Angulu continue to enjoy eternal rest. Mr. Angulu as the first Registrar of the Board laid the foundation on which his successors have continued to build on. I salute Dr. Mohammed Abdulrahman, OON for the strong pillars built on the initial foundation and for the strong commitment at domesticating and internalizing various major activities that were hitherto carried out abroad.
I congratulate Professor Bello A. Salim, OFR for the various innovations introduced into the system and for starting online activities, particularly in the registration process and the introduction of external monitors in the conduct of the Board’s examination. I commend Professor Adedibu Ojerinde, OON for taking the bull by the horn with the introduction of the Computer Based Test (CBT) to replace the Paper and Pencil Test (PPT) in the administration of the Board’s examination.
I am not unmindful of the acting tenures of Dr. Saleh Abubakar and Dr. Peter I. Odor for which they are all commended. There are many retired Directors of the Board who have been invited to this Retreat and who have graciously honoured us with their attendance. I congratulate you all and others who are not here on your modest efforts. You have all served your fatherland meritoriously and the Nation is proud of you.
2.0 IDEALS OF THE JOINT ADMISSIONS AND MATRICULATION BOARD
On my assumption of office as the fifth (5th) Registrar of the Board, I pledged to revisit and revamp the original ideals of those who thought it most appropriate to have a body like this Board and to pursue with vigour and passion their original objectives. I therefore salute the vision of the Vice-Chancellors of the then six (6) Universities who introduced the idea of synergy of their mandate in the areas of entrance examination and admission into the few universities that the Nation had.
If synergy, peer review, cost saving, elimination of wastage, collaboration, cooperation and enhancement of academic excellence were identified and recorgnised then with only six Universities, these salient attributes, ideas and ideals are now more than ever before the basic of all requirements that are most critical for the integration and cohesion of the Nation’s Tertiary Education.
Though a lot of water has passed under the bridge between 1977 and today, the idea of inclusiveness is still as germane today as it was many years back. This is why between August 2016 when I assumed duties and this month, March, 2017, a period of eight months, I have visited various Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, where
I have met with the Management of the various institutions in order to renew and restrengthen our relationship and partnership. The Managements of the Board has also met with the Committee of Vice-Chancellors, Committee of Rectors and Committee of Provosts. We have equally met with the Management of National Universities Commission (NUC) and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). We have taken the Board’s major events and activities to the Bayero University, Kano, Baze University, Abuja, Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, University of Lagos, and others.
A few weeks ago in February, 2017, we held a retreat in Abeokuta, Ogun State where we were guest of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who as Head of State in 1977 promulgated the enabling law of the this Board and gave birth to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. At the retreat, we looked at the processes of registration and admission, we reviewed them and we adopted new strategies in tandem with new thinking and new challenges.
It is therefore in our stride and continuation at bringing all stakeholders on board our inclusive train that we have organised this retreat to take another look at the Board’s supervision and evaluation of its conduct of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The aim of this retreat is to adopt an all-inclusive mode of examination supervision and evaluation. Recognising the stakeholding of major players in the Tertiary Education Sector, the Board wishes to give operational responsibilities to the major players in the administration of the Board’s examination.
It is not enough for Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) to visit examination centres with sirens and large entourage of government functionaries with very little impact to show for their participation, other than to be under television camera lights and beamed same to the whole world but yet, the outcome of the examination is laced with stories of examination malpractice. This time around, the major players with requisite integrity, intelligence and appropriate knowledge of the assessment would be fully engaged to actively participate in the supervision of the examination.
3.0 INCLUSIVE APPROACH TO SALE OF APPLICATION DOCUMENTS
As part of our approach to the ideal of Inclusiveness, we invited all Central Bank of Nigeria approved commercial banks to participate in the sale of the 2017 Board’s Application Documents. Sixteen (16) commercial banks and NIPOST honoured attended the interactive session where we explained the reason and need for all of them to partake in the exercise.
After the interactive session, thirteen (13) banks including NIPOST signified interest to participate in the sale of the 2017 Application Documents. Between the date of commencement of sale on Monday, 20th March and yesterday, Tuesday, 28th March, 2017, the following nine banks have paid for the number of Application Documents they require in the first instance.
The banks are:
(i) Zenith Bank
(ii) Union Bank
(iii) Sterling Bank
(iv) Unity Bank
(v) First City Monument Bank
(vi) Fidelity Bank
(vii) First Bank
(viii) Skye Bank
(ix) Jaiz Bank
Still in the spirit of our All-Inclusive approach, backed by our sincerity of intent and purpose, honesty, integrity and truthfulness and with the sole aim and objective of reaching out to all nooks and crannies both in urban and rural areas, we had to patronise the NIPOST, a sister agency, which has the reach out to very remote towns and villages.
Even when NIPOST could not raise the capital to purchase the pins for the Application Documents, we had to open a credit line for NIPOST to also vend pin and pay later without reducing the commission that the organisation is entitled to per sale of document.
No bank needed to know the Registrar or any Management member or anybody at all before being patronised. Rather every bank was given the opportunity to participate. We are actually for everybody and belong to everyone.
4.0 PIN VENDING SYSTEM
Emerging from the retreat at Abeokuta, the Board has innovated a contemporary sale of application method, which has led to the elimination of scratch cards. The Board has adopted a cost saving procedure PIN Vending System. It is a secured system which has redressed the sharp practices associated with the use of scratch cards.
We are aware of the teething problems attendant to the introduction of the new sale format, and as a responsive body, we have taken steps to ease the challenges and in a few days, the results would be a seamless registration exercise all over the country.
5.0 SUPERVISION OF THE UNIFIED TERTIARY MATRICULATION EXAMINATION
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has no university of its own. It is our desire that all concerned should take the UTME as their own and make it a project. The process and product of the examinee would end up in our various tertiary institutions and as such, we should be mindful of this process.
Whatever level of preparation carried out by us towards the conduct of the 2017 examination, if it is not well supervised, it will not produce the kind of results we expect.
The Board is using this retreat to place a clarion call to all stakeholders to ensure that all hands are on deck to make the conduct of public examination better.
The conduct of the Board’s examination which is a selection examination is the foundation of the quality of education in Nigeria. In view of this, I urge you to see Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and your involvement as a call to national duty and personal sacrifice.
I therefore urge all stakeholders especially our tertiary institutions to be actively involved in the supervision of the Board’s examination which will at the end benefit all and boost the quality of candidates that will be admitted into various institutions.
No sacrifice in this regards would be too big or too small to make by you and all Nigerians, as no amount can be paid to you that is worth your integrity.
6.0 EXAMINATION SCHEDULES
A large number of candidates who register for the Board’s examination are those who are also taking their Senior School Certificate Examination.
These candidates sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination usually need in March/April when they have not completed the syllabus of the public examinations. This contributes to some extent to the dismal performance of the candidates in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
What we have done this year is to ensure that the examination is scheduled in such a way that the candidates would be prepared and ready for both UTME and SSCE.
To achieve this, we met with other sister examination bodies and streamlined our timetables not only to ensure that candidates are prepared but also to avoid any clash of examination dates.
7.0 USE OF EIGHT KEYS WITHOUT A MOUSE
From the general feedback on the adoption of the Computer Based Test mode, we have noted the challenge of computer low level literacy of some candidates, especially with the phobia for the mouse.
This has been responsible partly for the call by some people for reversal to the Paper and Pencil Test mode. In order to ensure equity and level playground for all candidates taking the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, the Board has designed a system that will allow candidates use only eight (8) keys without the use of the mouse.
All the candidates need to do is to press the letters A,B,C,D for responses (answer) to questions and keys:
P = Previous question
N = Next question
S = Submit responses when candidate has finished examination
R = Reverse (do not intend to go further to submit again)
8.0 EQUAL DISTRIBUTION OF CANDIDATES TO CENTRES
Following the standardisation of the Computer Based Test (CBT) centres in terms of carrying capacity of two hundred and fifty (250), candidates would be distributed evenly to all centres without any discrimination. No Centre would be favoured and no Centre would be discriminated against.
The examination Schedule, Timetable and Sessions have all been designed, streamlined and syncronised for the examination to start and end on the same day, except otherwise dictated by the number of candidates in a few states with low subscription.
9.0 NEW TRAINING MANUAL, FORMS AND ORGANOGRAM OF EXAMINATION OFFICIALS
From this year, the Board has automated different reporting forms for examination officials. These forms have been reviewed such that they are now designed to be responsive to issues at centres to serve as a quick signal for both the examination and Centre situations.
A new structure has also been put in place for the administration of the examination. We have introduced officials such as the Chief External Examiners, Zonal External Examiners, External Examiners, Peace Monitors etc.
All these categories of officials and their roles would be explained in the presentation that would follow shortly after these introduction and opening remarks.
10.0 AFFIRMATIVE INCLUSIVENESS FOR THE BLIND CANDIDATES
Please permit me, once again to salute and appreciate my predecessors in office for all the efforts that they put in place to take the Board to its present height. In particular, we note their efforts, commitment and passion for the candidates with different ability, especially the blind candidates. A lot of resources is committed every year for the conduct of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination for the blind candidates.
Meanwhile, in order to amplify the past efforts and also expand the frontiers of equity and inclusiveness, we have met with the Executive Committee of the Association of Blind Persons in Nigeria at the Board’s Headquarters in Abuja in February 2017 and we also met with prospective blind candidates from a school for the blind in Lagos about two weeks ago at the University of Lagos.
The outcome of these meetings revealed that, while the challenged group fully appreciates the Board’s recent efforts at improving and upgrading the facilities for the administration of the Board’s examination for the blind candidates, with the purchase of sophisticated and expensive Braille Apex equipment, the paradox of it, is that we have put majority of the blind candidates at a disadvantage as many of them have never been exposed to these latest gadgets in the various schools.
Though, the Board also made efforts at training the blind candidates on the equipment before the examination, it is apparent that the two days to one week training and exposure to the sophisticated gadgets are inadequate and have little impact on them before the examination. The Association pleaded that the Board takes another look at our approach in order to have value for the resources that we are committing to their teaching, learning and assessment.
Firstly after our interaction, the Board appealed to some universities and other tertiary institutions to admit all the blind candidates that met the minimum requirement for registration in the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and I am happy to inform this august gathering that all candidates who fall into this category have been admitted. I thank the Vice Chancellors and Provosts who graciously partnered with us to admit the blind candidates into their institutions.
Secondly, the Board has approached the Digital Bridge Institute to partner with it to set up Visually Impaired Candidates centres where the blind candidates can be trained all year round and which can also serve as examination centres for them. The Institute has agreed to set up these dedicated centres in Abuja, Lagos and Kano in 2018 and the Board will support the centres with all necessary inputs that would make teaching, learning and assessment at the centres seamless.
The centres would also have residential accommodation for the blind candidates and their guides.
Thirdly, having noted the complaints of the Association and looking forward to 2018 when the project of dedicated centres would come to fruition, the Board has reached an understanding with the Association for the Blind Persons in Nigeria and Blind students in Lagos, that an abridged approach would be used for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, whereby, all prospective blind candidates would be invited to three centres in the country for special assessment in their subjects of choice that are relevant to their desired courses and programmes.
The Board is reaching out to academics and counsellors in special education to handle this special assessment with each candidate.
The session would be interactive with the purview covering the Use of English and three subjects, just like the sighted candidate. The assessment would be scored and each candidate would be given his or her score. The outcome of the exercise and the ordinary level results in the Senior School Certificate Examination will form the basis for the recommendation of these candidates to the various tertiary institutions of their choices.
In addition, the Board shall be responsible for the transportation and accommodation of every blind candidate and one guide.
These affirmative actions of the Board for the differently abled persons are also part of our all-inclusive approach to all comers. Again and indeed, we are for everybody.
11.0 AWAITING RESULT
For the umpteenth time, I would want to use this opportunity to emphasize that awaiting result candidates are eligible to register and sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
However, they would not be considered for admission on awaiting result status. The Board urges all candidates desirous of admission to upload their O’ level results on the Board’s portal the moment they receive them and before the commencement of admission exercise as their O’ level results would form a crucial part of their registration requirements.
12.0 CONCLUSION
In conclusion, this retreat’s objective is hinged on sensitisation of key stakeholders and on your responsibilities, not only to the Board but to the Nigerian Nation and to also alert you to the readiness of the Board’s enhanced inclusiveness in our approach at reassuring you that we are on this journey together and together we shall succeed.
Let me again thank you all for honouring our invitation to be here today. Your sacrifice to participate and contribute to the fine-tuning of the supervision and evaluation of the Board’s examination are clear demonstration of your deep interest in the development of education in Nigeria.
We are determined to make a change with this examination as we are aware of the strategic role our examination plays in deciding the direction of tertiary education in Nigeria. We appeal to you all to give us the required support.
At the end the various remarks, presentations, interaction and comments, we shall be breaking into syndicate groups where each cluster would discuss in deeper details the expected roles and obligations of each examination official. The guiding principle would be to formulate ideas and map out strategies that would ensure the maintenance and sustenance of the integrity of the Board’s examination and the sanctity of its process.
Thank you.

JAMB To Reduce CBT Exam Time, Questions Will Be Uploaded 5 Mins Before The Exam

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Registrar/Chief Executive Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, today in Kaduna, during the opening ceremony of a strategic planning retreat on the monitoring, supervision and evaluation of 2017 UTME stated that candidates writing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) this year would spend two hours instead of three hours.
He said the reduction in exam time was in line with international best standards and practices where no candidate is kept in an examination such as UTME for more than two hours. In his words: “We are going to reduce the duration of the examination for this year’s UTME. You cannot keep children of this age for three hours. For their age, the maximum time you can keep them is two hours. So, we are considering the reduction in the time they spend because once it is more than two hours you can’t expect that they will retain their presence of mind.”
Oloyede added that out of 13 commercial banks and the Nigeria Postal Service that have signified interest in the sales of the admission forms, only nine have paid for the number of application documents they required in the first instance. In a related development, since JAMB started the sale of the 2017 UTME form, candidates have been finding it hard to complete their registration. Some have been complaining about difficulties in getting the pin to be used to register for the exam.

road to first class- what you need to succeed and be a better student

As a former student of first class, I would love to share my story with everyone who passionately intends to graduate with a first class degree. Am currently a student of mechanical engineering in year three. It all started as a race without brake and I had all the zeal, energy and passion required to even graduate with 5.00 CGPA. Our first semester result was released and lo and behold, I had 4.91, I became angry that I wont fulfill my dream of graduating with 5.00 anymore. I never knew the worst was still on the way. My second semester began with that enthusiasm as of the first. I am not the type who keep female friends, and I am not getting any younger(25) so I felt the need to get someone around. I found this babe someworth ok and she had the basic qualities of the kinda girl I had wanted. We then got started and it was going on smoothly and we had real good time both academicaly and morally. She had always appreciated me for teaching her a lot about life. Contrary to my first semester when I had all the time alone, now my time was divided in the sense that I have to satisfy the both of us academically- we did some courses together. We got really close and things started getting bad that she began to shoe me her bad side in some sort. She could shout at me and command me to do anything for her. I tried as much as I could to cope with her, but things went worse with time. Long story cut short is that I had a semesterial GP of 4.33. It kept dropping as I continued to allow more friends around me. I was not too selective of my friends as I tried as much as possible to carry everyone along. As am writing this peice my CGPA is now 4.16, the girl in question is no longer close to me, we dont even chat anymore. She was always calling me like we were dating. I can't recall the last time I saw a call from her, probably three months ago. Another problem I faced was laxity. I got relaxed and felt everything is easy so why should I study hard. I became enotionally down as a result of keeping some unrully friends who felt no rimorse in dishing out abusive words in an attempt to sound more friendly. I can take some of those stuffs personal atimes though. I'd love to draw up a list of lessons to everyone reading this post.
(1) Always learn to be yourself and love your own uniqueness.
(2) Never you try to fit in. Create your own world and make it worth copying by others.
(3) Never compromise your standard for anyone. It will not worth it in the end.
(4) Always set healthy limits for whoever you keep as friend. Especially the toxic ones.
(5) Once a friend offends you, feel free to get angry at them immediately, they will respect you.
(6) Help others, but don't do that at the detriment of your academic excellence.
(7) Make friends with those who are ahead of you in all spheres of life, go to church, attend social gatherings.Exhale laziness with all your muscle.

NUC List Of Approved University For Postgraduate Programmes

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has observed with great concern that some Nigerian universities are running unapproved postgraduate programmes, leading to the award of Masters and PhD degrees.

The Commission has also observed that some Parastatals and Institutes are awarding these same Postgraduate degrees, either on their own or through unapproved affiliations with Nigerian and foreign Universities. Some of the prospective candidates for the 2017 UTME have called on the Board to address the issue of poor internet services and other technical issues that has made the vending of the ePIN difficult in many of the banks and registration centres.
According to the information gathered, candidates in Keffi, Akwanga and Lafia Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State have been finding it difficult to get their ePINs since the commencement of the registration.

They therefore called on JAMB to resolve all pending issues to enable them register before the given deadline.

“The new e-vending system is error free, so the hitches in which candidates are facing is temporary, just within a few hours or days, the problem will be over,” he assured.

37 students Bag first class in EKSU Convocation Ceremony

No fewer than 37 students of Ekiti State University , Ado Ekiti , will be awarded first class degrees during this year ’ s convocation ceremony .
The Vice Chancellor of EKSU , Prof . Samuel Bandele , stated this on Monday at a pre - convocation press conference in Ado Ekiti .
About 10 , 206 students will bag first degrees while another 398 will receive postgraduate degrees .
Bandele said part of his vision for EKSU was to introduce Computer Based Testing for most examinations to curb exorbitant paper wastages , examination malpractices and supervision bottlenecks .
He added that EKSU had succeeded in retrieving a substantial part of students ’ results from 2010 till date .
“ The implication of this is that the institution has the capacity to issue out transcripts online for those students that graduated from 2010 till date without any delay , while efforts are on top gear in retrieving those results from 1986 to 2009 to enable the university digitalise its records , ” he said .
Bandele added that the university was gradually becoming a residential institution with the ongoing construction of 20 , 000 bed - space capacity hostel and the recent accommodation of some students in a newly constructed hostel .

UI non-academic staff unions suspend strike

the Director of Public Communication , University of Ibadan , Mr . Olatunji Oladejo , has said that the non -academic staff unions of the university have agreed to suspend their week - long strike after a series of meetings with the school management .
The suspension of the strike came as the students of the university said that since the commencement of the strike , they ( students ) had been living under difficult conditions on the campus as sources of water and electricity had been switched off by the striking staff .
Academic and administrative activities at the university had come to a halt on March 20 , 2017 , when the staff declared an indefinite strike because of what the union described as illegal deductions of pension money from the salaries of its staff .
The workers are also asking for their unpaid promotion arrears , shortfall in salary payment , and improvement in welfare, among other issues .
Effort to speak with the chairman of the university branch of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities , Wale Akinremi , by our correspondent proved abortive as he did not pick his call when our correspondent called his line .
However , Oladejo said administrative and academic activities in the school would resume on Tuesday (today ) .
“ After a series of meetings with the leaders of the unions by the representatives of the university’ s authority, the unions agreed to suspend the strike and resume work on Tuesday , ” said Oladejo , who did not give further details of how a deal was struck between the two parties

JAMB 2017: Public Universities You Can Choose As 2nd Choice During Registration

A reliable source has disclosed that candidates now have the opportunity to choose two public universities during registration. This is contrary to the earlier information that 2017 UTME candidates can only choose 1 public University and 1 private university during the registration.

We believe that the instruction earlier given by JAMB that candidates should choose only one public university was only an advise to candidates due to the fact that in many cases candidates who choose public universities as 1st and 2nd choice end up not even considered for admission by their 2nd choice universities due to the high competition in the universities they selected.

So candidates who wish to select two public universities as 1st and 2nd choice can go ahead an do so. However, the list of Public Universities you can select is VERY LIMITED. Most of the popular Universities will not even be listed, while selecting for 2nd choice. We therefore advise such candidates to ensure they select public universities that are less competitive as their 2nd choice options in order to stand a chance of being considered for admission.

So to further ensure that you make the right choice, we have provided the names of the universities that are less competitive, as earlier announced by JAMB during the 2016 Registration process. We believe this will be similar to what can be obtained as 2nd choice selection for this 2017 Registration.

The list contains Federal, State and Private universities that are less competitive. So if you wish to pick a public university as a 2nd choice, please ensure it is one of the ones on this list or any other one you know that is less competitive.

TIP: You can have 2 or 3 options as a priority list, in case you don't find one during your selection, you can take the next option.

JAMB UTME 2017 Registration Form Template. This will help you.

There is no official list released by JAMB this 2017 as Universities you can choose as 2nd choice, so you'll have to make use of the attached list.

JAMB 2017 Registration: Steps To Resolve And Avoid Cases Of Invalid E-Pins

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been drawn to cases of candidates being unable to complete their registrations due to invalid E-PINS.
According to JAMB, this is caused by the following;
1.A very high rate of candidates buying ePINS without creating their profile first.
2.Incorrect email address provided at the bank teller

3..Recent enforcement of email validation of candidates emails. Candidates who have not created their profile properly would be affected.
4.Unforeseen technical issues in the PIN vending system.
If you are one of those affected by this, here are the next steps you are to take.
1.Do NOT to buy new pins in the case of invalid pins. The cause of the invalid pin has been investigated
2. All candidates having invalid pins responses have been captured on the system and will receive their PIN details on or before Monday 27th March,2017.
3.Emails with candidate name, email and valid pins will be sent to candidates before Monday 27th March 2017.
To avoid the issue of invalid E-PIN, candidates MUST ensure

Meet UNILAG Best graduating student with 5.00 cgpa in the department of engineering

During the last convocation of the University of Lagos , 22 - year- old Omotuyi Oyindamola made the headlines as another student that graduated with 5 . 00 CGPA in the 2015 /2016 academic session . She graduated from Systems Engineering Department. In this interview with
TUNDE AJAJA , she talks about the feat
5 . 00 CGPA is the peak of academic excellence for an undergraduate in UNILAG . Did you target it from the start ?
When I got to school , I only had the plan to finish with a first class , as the Lord would help me to . However , when I saw my first year results and I had 5 . 00 CGPA, I made up my mind to sustain it. And it looked achievable. I knew it would require a lot of hard work and I was ready to do it. It wasn ’ t easy at all but God saw me through it all. I was also blessed with good friends and classmates who encouraged me all the way . I can also trace it to the fact that I had a strong upbringing in the area of being serious with my academics. My father is a scholar , so he trained (not forced ) us to be scholars too , and I thank God it worked. Beyond hard work, I believe I also obtained favour from God and my parents were deeply elated seeing that their first child achieved such a great feat .
Was it a continuation of your performances in previous schools or it was a fresh beginning?
Yes , I would say it’ s like a continuation. I had the first position from my JSS1 to SSS3 , and I finished as the best graduating student in my secondary school . I left a percentage score that people coming after would work smart to beat . With the help of God , I took the West African Senior School Certificate Examination and the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination once ; I had a very strong secondary school education . Our teachers drilled us a lot . My WASSCE result was good and I scored 315 in UTME , so I gained admission the same year I finished secondary school . However , when I got to school , I had a little difficulty finding my way around , but thankfully, I had seniors who had been in the system who showed me around . I found that new students tend to hear some discouraging stories from senior colleagues, like how difficult it could be to have first class or have an ‘ A ’ in some courses. People said a lot , based on their own experiences , but I just had to take the good ones and trust in God . So , if anyone told me no one had ever got an A in a course , I would just say someone could start it. If you have such mindset , you would likely get good results . And thank God four of us had first class in my class .
Some people still see engineering as a field for men. Did anyone try to make you change your mind ?
No , more so that I also did not see engineering as a field that a woman cannot venture into and thrive . In fact , it was my dream as a child to be an engineer, and that desire started at the age of five when I started connecting batteries and light - emitting diodes . So , growing up , I found that I love anything multitasking, computer -related , mathematics , fabrications , etc. Therefore , my mentor advised me to opt in for the course . Unknown to some people, system engineering is a very great but wide course . It is engineering and management put together . It is an interdisciplinary field of engineering and engineering management that deals with complex systems. It combines the knowledge of computer science with mechanical, electrical and industrial engineering . It is an all- encompassing field classified into Robotics, Operations research / manufacturing , Systems modelling and simulation and Control . But in a non - professional language, if you are looking for an industrial engineer who would be an entrepreneur , be effective in management of processes and be a software developer , among other skills , systems engineering is the way to go .
Since you had A in all your courses , how easy were they?
Every course has its challenges but I enjoyed tackling challenges so I did well in all my courses. However , I enjoyed programming and engineering design. For people who don ’ t know much about the course , especially its opportunities, as a systems engineer , you can work in almost all companies , because the course has various phases and it depends on your area of interest and expertise. Systems engineers are needed in manufacturing companies , oil industry , IT companies and banks , etc.
Only two of you had 5 . 00 CGPA in your set, which implies that having such result would not have come easy . What were the things you did differently from others that helped you ?
I did everything a good student would do , like reading , reading through the night and learning from seniors and classmates . I also tried to understand my environment – my lecturers , their marking schemes and my courses. I read to gain knowledge and of course to get good grades. In addition , I always tried as much as possible to answer all questions even when I did not know the answer . In such cases , I would expatiate on the little idea I had about the question , and once it’ s reasonable , the lecturer would know you know something about the question .
From your observation , what makes students fail because some students would have done those things as well ?
It is a relative question , because it depends on the individual . Some of the challenges include personal challenges , lack of interest, not writing the way the lecturer expects , like using general terms when you should use technical terms . In exams , little things matter , sometimes . So , I believe the reasons differ .
Some students would be wondering what they could do to have your kind of result . What would you tell them ?
There is no hard and fast rule to it; it is really about the individual ’ s desire , determination and focus. If you trust God for each day , learn from classmates , know the nitty - gritty of every course and get insights from seniors , understand the lecturer, understand the technique of how answers should be presented , and such things , then success is sure . Wisdom is also very important, because the way I write in Engineering is different from the way students of Law would write. Beyond these, students should know that school is not just for the grades but for knowledge. So , it’ s not good to read to pass , rather, students should read to understand, and in that process learn other things outside academics, which would be beneficial to them. So that by the time they leave school , they have a wider view about life .
Some people would think you read all the time. Was that true ?
Interestingly, I didn ’ t read all the time and I slept well. I didn ’ t even have a specific number of hours for reading daily but I ensured I read what I was supposed to read every day . However , while reading , I explored the internet for better understanding and it helped. I took notes while reading and I gained some more while teaching others. I wasn ’ t the type that used the library . I used it only in my first year and I read mostly in my faculty and hostel . During exams , I ate and slept well, and at that period , my reading was more focused because the Lord always gave me direction . Also , I wasn ’ t shy to ask for help when there was need for it . Initially, I had difficulties with engineering drawing mainly because my first encounter with it was in the university. Thus , I had to attend personal and group tutorials to get on track , and it helped . Sometimes , some friends and colleagues saw me as a very serious person and at other times , they saw me as being very jovial because I had a good relationship with most of them.
Were you involved in other school activities ?
Yes , I worked in my department as a lab proctor for a year in both computations and simulations lab and the robotics lab .
Where is your dream place of work ?
Any Information and Technology and programming company because my career interest is Software Development . I aspire to be the person that God wants me to be . I would like to practise my profession and I ’ m also looking forward to a doctoral degree in the field .
Is there anything you would have loved to do as a student that you could not do , perhaps because of your dedication to your studies ?
My dedication to my studies did not affect anything I would have loved to do . However , if there was anything I wish I had more of, it would be to gain more practical knowledge in the field .
Since your graduation , and given the kind of result you had , have you had offers from companies ?
Yes , there have been offers and I thank God for that . Things have been awesome since I left school , but I do not give people reasons to see me any differently from who I used to be . I ’ m taking one day at a time while looking forward to a post graduate study after my National Youth Service Corps programme. Thank God for the kind of parents I have . They have always been sacrificial . They went through a lot to send us to school , so I didn ’ t have any financial challenge . Besides , I enjoyed UNILAG scholarship from my second year . Sometimes , they also rewarded me with cash gifts and words of encouragement, and I ’ m happy I had something to show for their efforts over me .
Did you have an active social life while in school ?
Yes , I did . My social life was superb . I was surrounded by good friends and I had a number of fellowship activities. I would never have been better if I had gone through school without finding my great lover – GOD . And notably , my happiest moment was on my convocation day , when I saw what the efforts of so many people had resulted into.

FG Proposes To Expel Students With Less Than 0.5 CGPA From Next Academic Session

The Minister of State for Education, Professor Anthony Onwuka, yesterday, March 26, 2017 has revealed that the Federal government is recommending a new policy that will enable Vice-Chancellors of different institutions to expel students with as low as 0.5 CGPA.
Onwuka who divulged this at the 31st convocation of the University of Port Harcourt, noted that students with as low as 0.5 CGPA have no business in the University and should no longer be housed.
“We must stop to continue housing adventurers, who have no business remaining in the universities beyond the time specified for their studies in the universities.
“In that wise, it is being proposed that at the end of this academic year, any student with less than 0.5 CGPA should cease to be a student of the university and should be shown the way out.
“The universities must continue to have people who are serious in what they have come to do. If you have less than 0.5 in your CGPA, you are out. You are out for good so that the space will be left for those who have come to do serious business." Onwuka sai
