The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has said some fraudsters are currently swindling candidates of the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination by selling fake examination questions to them for as much as N200 , 000 .
The JAMB Registrar , Prof Is - haq Oloyede , disclosed this on Monday during a briefing , adding that thousands of candidates who chose the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology , Ogbomoso , Oyo State , as their centre , would be moved to Kwara State , because of the ongoing protests by the student union of the institution .
Oloyede , who held the briefing after monitoring the UTME in some centres in Abuja , was accompanied by the Minister of State for Education, Prof Anthony Anwukah .
The JAMB registrar noted that the fraudsters took UTME past question papers and changed the date to the present year , selling to gullible candidates .
He said , “ On Monday morning , somebody sent me some questions . The syndicate behind it called it Orijo , and a candidate bought it for N200 , 000 . When I saw it, it was our questions in 1984 and the syndicate simply put 2017 on it. They started selling the questions and people were buying it.
“ So , if candidates are corrupt , JAMB cannot have sympathy . The syndicate is smart . They went into the UTME past questions and just changed the heading . Another person called me and said he had all the UTME questions . I just laughed when I checked the item, because some dubious persons are making money from gullible candidates .
“ As of Monday , about 440 , 000 candidates have taken the examination. We have finished in some states and some states will continue on Thursday . But by Friday, we should be over .
“ We understand the case in LAUTECH . We have taken care of our two centres on the campus . Arrangements are being made to transfer the students , because there are no private CBT centres in Ogbomoso . If the workers and students do not call off their strike in Ogbomoso by Tuesday , we will reschedule all the registered candidates there to Ilorin , Kwara State . ”
