The police have arrested four suspects including two university students for involvement in examination racketeering during the 2017 West African Senior School Certificate Examination .
They were said to have set up rogue websites under different names and solicited for money from WASSCE candidates in exchange for answers to exam questions .
The suspects include Chijoke
Onwuachu , a 300 level student of Computer Science , Samuel Onwurah , 20 , Patrick Nwodo , 30 and Okon
Joseph , 20 , a 200 level student of Public Health Department .
The Force spokesman , Jimoh Moshood , who paraded the suspects on Friday in Abuja said Onwuachu was arrested in Umuahia and confessed to have collected N400 per paper from numerous candidates to the tune of N 70 , 000 .
He stated that Onwura , on the other hand, collected N90 , 000 from his victims , adding that he was apprehended at Kutunku extension layout in Gwagwalada, Abuja .
Moshood explained that the police trailed Nwodo and picked him up at Abakpa , Nike in Enugu , noting that he confessed to have made N40 , 000 from his illegal activities.
“ Joseph who is 20 years old 200 level student of Public Health Department was arrested in Calabar . He has collected the sum of N120 , 000 from different candidates , ” the police spokesman disclosed .
He explained that the arrest of the suspects was sequel to a complaint from WAEC about the activities of the exam racketeering syndicate.
“ Consequently , upon receipt of a petition by the authorities of WAEC alleging that some fraudsters were operating illegal websites under different names soliciting for candidates in the February /May 2017 examination to pay certain amount of money in exchange for worked solutions and answers via WhatsApp, the personnel of the Inspector- General of Police Monitoring Unit swung into action and arrested the suspects , ” Moshood stated .
He added that the suspects would be arraigned in court after conclusion of investigation .
Onwuachu said he created his website in November , 2016 to provide solutions to past WASSCE questions , adding that he had no collaborator in WAEC.
