The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Saturday said it would henceforth ensure the resolution of all exam issues before releasing results of its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination to avoid cancellation .
JAMB ’ s Head of Public Relations , Mr Fabian Benjamin , said this in Bwari , FCT, while speaking on the outcome of the mop - up examination results .
He disclosed that the results of the supplementary examination conducted by the Board on July 1 in 170 centres for 85 , 000 candidates across the country had been released .
He explained that the result was delayed to ascertain there were no hitches all the centres that the supplementary exam was conducted.
“ The results had been ready as usual ; we release results two hours after examination; this delay was because we wanted to take our time to clear all issues.
“ This is also to ensure that all the CCTV at centres we conducted mop - up examinations were adequately fixed; we do not want the situation where we release results before thinking of cancelling it.
“ What we want to be doing now as we have started with this mop - up examination, and will be doing in 2018 , is to ensure all issues are resolved before releasing results .
“ It is our view that there is no need rushing to release results ; it is better to do whatever is supposed to have been done before we release the results , ” he said .
He urged candidates yet to receive their supplementary examination results , not to panic, saying that no result from the mop - up examination was outstanding.
He said that the breakdown of the 2017 UTME result could not be published at the moment since the Board was yet to conduct exam for foreign candidates .
“ We are still writing exam and it will be unfair to publish the whole results when people are still writing .
“ We just rolled out forms for foreign centres , so once we finish that , which is not going to take long , we will do the analysis and come to a conclusion , ” Benjamin said .
85 , 000 candidates of the 1 . 7 million enrolled for the 2017 UTME had registered late for the exam as a result of some challenges .

KSU management Orders Immediate Resumption Of Academic Activities
The management of Kogi State University (KSU) has ordered an immediate resumption of academic activities in the school.
This followed the decision of the Kogi State University, (KSU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union Of Universities, to continue with her ongoing strike action.
The management frowned at the fact that despite the pleas and concerted efforts being made to see that the demand of the lectures are met, the lecturers on their own part have refused to sheath the sword and resume academic activities.
The management has therefore ordered the immediate resumption of academic activities and has asked the Acting Provost College of Health Sciences and the Deans of faculties to monitor the signing of register and performance of duty with immediate effect.
The management has also called on all staff to strictly comply with this directive to avoid unpleasant consequences.
protest in fed poly idah As Management shut down school
Report has it that the management of the Federal Polytechnic, Idah in Kogi, has shut down the institution, following students violence over the murder of their colleague, Gabriel Adiku, by unknown persons.
A statement by the institution’s Deputy Registrar (Academics), Mr D.I.S. Unwuchol, said that the closure was approved by the governing council after it reviewed the security situation.
The statement disclosed that Adiku, a Higher National Diploma student, was attacked by unknown assailants, who waylaid him on his way from class to his hostel.
“The victim was stabbed several times and left in a pool of his blood. Students later rushed him to the school clinic for treatment where he died,” Unwuchol said.
It was learnt that the angry students destroyed the clinic because they felt that Adiku would have survived if it was equipped.
The statement, however, indicated that the school would be reopened on Aug. 6, 2017.
FG Abolishes HND/BSc Dichotomy In Paramilitary Agencies
The Federal Government has ended the dichotomy between holders of University degrees and Higher National Diploma in all the Para-military services.
Consequently, the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Board has directed that all officers with HND should be upgraded to COMPASS 08, which is the salary grade level for holders of degree certificates at entry point.
This approval came after the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Board (CDFIPB) meeting held on Tuesday, 11th July 2017 which was chaired by the Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau
According to a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji, “The board directed that all officers with HND to be upgraded to COMPASS 08, which is the salary grade level for holders of degree certificates at entry point.
“While the nomenclature for the HND holders will start with the rank of Senior Inspector, the degree holders are with the rank of Assistant Superintendent II.”

See the Courses Encouraged by Minister of education in Nigeria Varsities
The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu , has called for a reassessment of the curriculum of tertiary institutions in favour of vocational courses, noting that the trend would infuse entrepreneurial skills in youths .
The minister maintained that such foundation would reduce hunger and unemployment in the country.
Adamu said this in Uyo , capital of Akwa Ibom State , on Monday during the unveiling of the United Nations Reading Hub.
The UN Reading Hub , our correspondent gathered , is under the auspices of the United Nations Association of the University of Uyo and it was adopted by the Africa Youth Movement .
Adamu , represented by the Vice Chancellor , UNIUYO, Prof . Enefiok Essien, said that Nigeria had been vigorously pursuing a skill- based education and entrepreneurial learning .
He added that less attention should be given to the acquisition of degrees , diplomas and certificates .
“ With quality and rounded education , we will be sure of a change that will bring about a timely actualisation of all the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by the designated year of 2030 .
“ With proper education , individuals will have more entrepreneurial skills . This will eradicate or at least reduce poverty, which is the goal number one in SDG . This will lead to zero hunger , peace , justice and strong institutions, ” he said .
The VC in his remarks described the partnership as unprecedented. Also , noting that the United Nations Reading Hub was the first of its kind in Nigeria , he said , “ The reading hub is conceived as a one - stop resource centre for news, notices , appointments, opportunities , circulars , conventions , protocols, treaties , instruments and , in short, all up to date materials and information by the UN .
“ The vast information bank will not only benefit students and staff of UNIUYO , but also the knowledge seeking public who will have the opportunity to come into the university library for research . ”

UNILAG Tuition Fees is now Free - Registrar
The University of Lagos has said that it has yet to increase its tuition, contrary to reports making the rounds .
Deputy Registrar , Mr . Toyin Adebule , said this in a statement made available to our correspondent on Monday .
A statement credited to a group had recently alerted the public to an alleged increment in tuition in federal universities and some state- owned tertiary institutions.
However , Adebule has asked members of the public to discountenance the report .
He said , “ Contrary to the news making the rounds on print , electronic and social media that the University of Lagos has increased its tuition , the university wishes to inform its students , their parents /guardians and the general public that the statement is not true and it is a complete distortion of facts .
“ We want to emphasise here that tuition is free in the University of Lagos . Fresh and returning students are only charged obligatory fees depending on their status . ’’
OAU VC jailed for 1.4 billion Fraud Allegations
former Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi
Awolowo University, Anthony Elujoba,
has been remanded in Ilesha Prisons
after the bail application was dismissed.
Justice David Oladimeji of the Federal
High Court in Ede, Osun State, ruled that
Mr. Elujoba be remanded till July 19
when the case will be brought for
hearing.
The former VC is standing trial on a
seven-count charge of alleged corruption
and abuse of office involving some N1.4
billion.
He is standing trial alongside the bursar
of the university, Josephine Akeredolu.
But workers of the university see Mr.
Elujoba’s trial as “victimisation”.
Two lecture-free days declared by the
Academic Staff Union of Universities,
ASUU, in solidarity with Mr. Elujoba
ended Tuesday.
On Tuesday, workers of the university
protested the decision of the court to
send the embattled professor to prison.
The Non-Academic Staff Union of
Universities, NASU, locked down the
court gate as the ruling was being
handed.
No one was allowed to leave the premises of the court
at the time of this report.
The workers demanded the judge withdraw his ruling,
and authorise the former vice chancellor be kept in the
custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC.
Students fear the latest disturbances may further affect
their academic calendar.

Beware: These 5 things can ruin your academic career.
Just 2% of students actually make excellent grades while the rest of the 98% are doing things that are detrimental to their success without them realizing it.
Here are 5 things that can ruin your academic career and how you can avoid them.
1. Listening to critics: Yes, you read that correctly. It can be tough at times when you are the only one in your neighborhood who reads at the first week of resumption or even at night. As you will get a lot of friends and neighbors telling you your reading is too much or any other jargon. ‘Don’t let the bozo grind you down’ is a way one of my mentors will put it. There are people you think know what they are saying who in actual fact don’t. Stop listening to criticism of how much hard work you are doing. Because one thing is always certain: hard work always pay. It has been paying since yore.
2. Reading all night: What put most student in this terrible situation or what make them want to read this long, most of the time, is because they have a test or an exam they haven’t prepared for.
Most students think by reading for the whole night, they are gaining a lot.
Here is what they fail to realize; maximum concentration and assimilation only comes at the first 30minutes to 1 hour of reading, the assimilation rate decreases with time.
The way to stay fit for reading and any other activity is to cultivate the habit of reading early and also breaking your reading into small sessions at a time.
3. Social media addiction: Social media is probably the highest form of distraction when it is not used properly. One of my mentors will put it this way: ‘Use social media, don’t be used by it’.
As a rule of thumb, the maximum number of times you should use social media a day is 3. Three times is enough, each session lasting not more than 20minutes.
The only reason you should spend more than 20minutes is if you are making money from it. In this case, you are ‘using’ social media not being ‘used’ by it. Even with this, you still need to manage how you use social media.
4. Phone addiction: This craziness started at the time of 2go when people, not only student, started operating phones on high ways without paying attention to traffic.
Today, it has even grown to the extent that student in the same room can’t talk directly except by chatting. If student don’t chat, they find a way to ‘burn’ time by playing games that add nothing to their life.
I don’t mean you should not play games, in fact I do, sometimes. But realize that there is time for everything which must properly be quantified.
5. Not setting priority: Don’t think you can be part of everything and still have time to complete important tasks. It doesn’t work that way.
For every task you take, you are taking the risk on doing less of another task. Because part of the time you now have for the task you used to do before is now taken by the new task. So, prioritize by doing tasks that are really important and stop doing those that are not.
I promise you that if you can stop these 5 things, 90% of your problems will be solved
This is to your success

Jamb issue strong Warning to all CBT Centres
The Registrar , Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board , Prof . Is - haq Oloyede , has said that Computer -based centres whose performance is less than satisfactory during the conduct of the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations will be required to fix their areas of challenges and conduct a two - hour trial examination before they can be considered for the 2018 diet of the examination.
Oloyede , who expressed disappointment at some of the centres during the just - concluded rescheduled examination, added that the board would engage the services of independent technical advisors to assess the preparation of the CBT centres ahead of the examination next year .
He said this during a meeting with CBT centres owners in Abuja on Thursday .
He said , “ Even during the just -concluded rescheduled examination, in spite of all admonition for centres to ensure that facilities work to required standards , the board could not conduct a smooth and flawless examination in certain centres where it had to be conducted. ’’
While stating that the highest recurring infraction by the CBT centres during the examination was the creation of insufficient registration outlets , Oloyede identified other illegalities committed as centre -induced malpractice; creation of illegal connection to “ VIP ” rooms where candidates with the right prices were allowed to sit for examination clandestinely ; creation of deliberate technical hiccups in order to retain JAMB questions for clandestine purposes and unwholesome commercialisation ; extortion of candidates and gullible parents ; unruly behaviour to examination officials; deceit and round tripping of equipment ; inadequate facilities and other technical issues.
Among other measures to prevent malpractice, the registrar added that the board would “ engage the services of local professionals who will be assigned with the responsibility of inspecting the centres regularly
